German "(an) packen" = to approach the doing of sth. as well as to pack
Challenge
Since September 2008 started campaign "Pack dein Studium. Am besten in Sachsen." (Do your study, at best in Saxony) of the Saxon Ministry of Science and Saxon universities which is addressed mostly at high-school graduates from the old federal states at the Saxon region. There was even a national information tour: things to know about Saxony as university region: Pack-Dein-Studium -Tour managed over 4,000 km long way and during two weeks drove around Germany.
The backgroud of the campaign " Do your study, at best in Saxony" is founded in a row of a Pact about Studying 2020 (Hochschulpakt 2020) between the federal and regional governments in the year 2007. The goal is to create 90.000 additional first places for studying in Germany.
Within this pact Saxony obligated itself to keep the number of studying places for the new students on the level of the year 2005 and it means 19.940. Therefore Saxony gets up to 2010 approx. 27 million Euro from the federal money.
In Saxony you can outstanding study, f. e. in Chemnitz, Dresden, Freiberg, Görlitz, Leipzig, Mittweida, Zittau or Zwickau – without college tuitions and the living costs are almost about 1/3 smaller than in the West Germany. There is a variety of cultural offers like the National Park Saxon Switzerland or the Semperopera in Dresden as well as a vivid, student-oriented scene.
Convincing for new students are more over modern PC-work stations, laboratories and libraries, as well as wide offer of studying at the Saxon universities. Established competence areas are present as well as unique fields of study like Arabic studies, communication’s psychology or healing and handicapped pedagogy where you have mostly no latency time. The fields of studying are well organized and the seminars are manageable. And who wants to promote in Saxony is additionally supported.
