Climate neutral elementary school
Challenge:
The registered society The Foo e. V." is actively commited to sustainability with several projects. One of this projects is called "A climate neutral institution of education". In this project, the society supports an elementary school in the south of Munic with words and deeds on it's way to climate neutrality. For example, the society put out a carbon footprint study, which was conducted in collaboration with the DFGE-Institut für Energie, Ökologie und Ökonomie (DFGE-Institute for Energy, Ecology and Economy) as well as ClimatePartner (Klima AG).
Goals:
This study had the aim to inform the school about environmentally-friendly enery saving capacities.
This – meanwhile published – study shows important approaches for the achievement of a positive and thus in the future also climate neutral energy balance of hte school. Likewise, the results given by the study shall be used to sensitize the school's pupils to the important themes climate and environmental protection.
For this purpose, the elementary school built up a climate project, where pupils from 2nd to 4th grade in smaller groups help actively improve the climate balance of their school. Here also first project ideas have been developed with the help of the society The Foo e.V., as for eample the climate themed musical "Polar bear, Dr. Ping and the friends of Earth", which is planned to be on stage in 2010, as well as the catering of a big climate neutral summer party.
