Singing Revolution is a commonly used name for events between 1987 and 1990 that led to the restoration of the independence of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Singing national songs and hymns was strictly forbidden during the years of the Soviet occupation. As punishment followed dismission at work or even deportation to Siberia.

Examples for civic involvement
Lately, we became many requests from Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, UK and other countries, and you asked about specific examples for civic involvement in Poland. Here you can read a short version of Ben Franklin’s opinion. He became a member of a civic movement that is active long before the official election campaigns in Poland start.
At the same time, I would like to invite you to present other actions from your countries. I encourage you to criticize positively these examples and to be a part of civic involvement. We create our reality, the political one as well. If media seem to be tendentially and biased, we can talk together, with or without them.

Tadeusz Mazowiecki is a Polish writer, journalist and liberal politician. From August 1989 up to December 1990, he was a Polish Prime Minister and the first non-communistic Prime Minister in the former Eastern Bloc.
